A new Orkney based recruitment consultancy, offering a range of services to employers and job seekers in the islands, is officially launched this week.
The Orkney Employment Consultancy has been set up by local employment specialist, Claire Sim.
“Over the years I could see there was a real need to better meet the demands of employers trying to fill vacancies in Orkney, and individuals looking for work locally,” said Claire. “Orkney’s low levels of unemployment and limited numbers of potential candidates means recruitment is a process that’s not always successful for our employers. That, in turn, can have significant and often long-term consequences for business.”
Claire has worked directly with local job seekers and employers for over a decade in careers guidance and coaching roles with Skills Development Scotland, gaining a thorough understanding of the particular demands facing the Orkney labour market.
Her new business provides a variety of tailored and fully confidential services for employers, including online vacancy advertising, advice and support and a full recruitment package. Claire also offers free advice and support to those looking for work in the islands.
“Businesses thrive when the right people come on board and I’m really looking forward to helping local companies, and candidates, realise their full potential,” she said. “With several hard-to-fill vacancies in Orkney, we need to work hard to encourage our young folk to come back home, while also attracting people who possess the skills that are in short supply.”
