Orkney’s finest food and drink businesses were recognised at a prestigious awards ceremony held in Kirkwall tonight (Saturday, 4 October).

OFD finaldfdffdTwenty-eight local food and drink firms were shortlisted for 12 different awards, covering everything from the best breakfast, lunch and evening meal, to the finest bakery, drink and dairy product. Prizes for the top marketing initiative and new product were also presented, along with a special award for continued excellence.

The event – organised by Orkney Food and Drink and sponsored by NorthLink Ferries – marked the culmination of the 2014 Orkney Food Festival, which has been running over the summer months.

Over 2,500 public nominations were received following the launch of the awards in April, with the shortlist drawn up by Orkney Food and Drink and a team of independent category adjudicators.

The winners, listed below, were announced at tonight’s gala awards dinner in Kirkwall’s Pickaquoy Centre, with each successful business receiving a unique crystal trophy.
